Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
An important official commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
